A Brief Look At Foxborough, Massachusetts
This small New England town named for the Honarable Charles James Fox was incorporated in 1778, and has a population of approximately 17,000 (16,813 at 2006 Town Census). Known as "The Gem Of Norfolk County", Foxborough is located halfway between Boston, MA, and Providence, RI, Foxborough. Lying 22 miles southwest from Boston, Ma, and 18 miles Northeast of Providence, RI, this suburban town is located at the intersection of Routes 495 and 95. Route 1 traverses the Western edge of the town and Route 140 runs N-S and through the downtown area.

Since 1971, Foxborough has been home to the New England Patriots. The New England Tea Men also called Shaeffer Stadium home from 1978-1980. In addition to the many name changes the stadium venue underwent (Shaeffer-->Sullivan-->Foxboro-->CMGI Field-->Gillette), currently The New England Patriots and The New England Revolution call it home. Gillette Stadium is located in the Route 1 Business District and is host to numerous major league sports games, concerts, trade shows, fairs, and other big atttractions throughout the year. The Foxborough Warriors are the teams from the public schools and they too have a strong winning tradition.

While trying to maintain our small town community feel, new developments (including Patriot Place, Chestnut Green, and The Lodge at Foxborough) are challenging that effort. Continued preservation, wise use, and "smart growth"-planned development of the more than twenty-one water bodies, 1700 acres of conservation land, the State Forest (F. Gilbert Hills State Forest), the town Forest (Harold B. Clark Town Forest)and numerous recreation facilities will continue to ensure that Foxborough's residents will be able to enjoy the beauty and bounty of our natural areas while buildout is occuring all around.

The Town Common is the geographic heart of the town.

Community Profile (DHCD) - 2003

Major Highways Principal highways are Interstate Route 95, U.S. Route 1, and State Route 140.

"Located at the intersection of Interstates 95 and 495, Foxborough is a growing community of 15,000 known to its residents as "the gem of Norfolk County". The town is the home of the New England Patriots National Football League franchise. The team has performed at Foxborough Stadium on Route One since its opening in 1972. Foxborough Harness Raceway, adjacent to the stadium, is the only New England track providing for harness racing. This facility has been a fixture since the early 1940s. While Foxborough is proud of these and other high profile businesses, the town also prides itself on its small town community feeling. The town has been extremely successful in maintaining its small town image and rural characteristics while providing for significant growth. The 700-acre Foxborough State Forest and an additional 1700 acres owned by the town which are scattered throughout the community, perpetuate the rural, country setting which is complimented by the town's close knit neighborhoods. Civic and sports organizations also play a major role in promoting and maintaining the strong sense of community spirit felt by town residents. Founder's Day, complete with parade and high school band, a haunted house and pancake breakfast; events such as these are attended by thousands. This civic pride is instilled in new residents as well and is exemplified annually by the success of many fund raising events. Residents are particularly proud of the fact that Foxborough High School is renowned for its strong sports tradition with the football team a perennial contender for the Division Championship.
