Onion Lights And Onion Lamps

Our research shows these pieces as being used on New Bedford Whaling ships in the early 1800's. Other references show similar designs as early railroad signalling lanterns. These pieces are adaptations of the originals. They are available in several sizes as shown and as ceiling mounted or hanging pieces.

Special sized backplates are available for Wall style onion lanterns...$10 more

Finish
We provide an Antique Brass finish that will weather to a natural brown-black. No lacquer is used.

Also available:

Black - The  lantern is painted black... $20more.
Verde - A blue and green patina to look 'old' as seen on old roofs, etc... $20 more.
Copper - copper instead of brass is used.  Weathers to the color of an old penny (a real penny!)...$20  more on all models except the 601   which cost  $20more.
We do not recommend Polished Brass - or  Lacquered. Over time the lacquer wears, the lantern darkens in a spotty finish until the lacquer is completely gone. This is accelerated near coastal areas or high smog areas. Customers become unhappy with their fixtures and grumpy at us. We don't care for grumpy.

Glass
Clear is provided. Seedy or Optic is available - $15 more.Bulb Option
A single standard 100W socket is provided.  The Post 611 and all 601 models can have a three-light candelabra cluster rather than the standard one ligh - cost $25 more.
 

Hanging Style
Comes  with 1/2" deep canopy, 1" hanging loop, and 3' of chain and wire unless specified otherwise.  Additional chain and wire $2.00/foot
